Monroe County Community College will host a brand new, free, non-credit Algebra Boot Camp March 10 - April 17, 2025 , to lessen anxiety about algebra in preparation for taking courses for students and parents who want to support their high school and college-age students tackling this intimidating subject.
The Algebra Boot Camp (MATH 714-81) will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings for six weeks from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in Room L-204 in the Life Sciences Building on MCCC's Main Campus, 1555 S. Raisinville Road in Monroe, MI. The Algebra Boot Camp is free, but participants must be registered in advance.
Topics covered in this Algebra Boot Camp will include solving and graphing linear equations, working with systems of equations, factoring techniques, working all operations with polynomials, factoring and solving quadratic equations, and rational expressions (fractions with variables. Each topic will be enhanced with real world applications and activities, when possible. The last week of the camp will be dedicated to review and preparation to take or retake the Accuplacer test. A discussion of STEM programs and careers will also be included.
The Algebra Boot Camp is free and made possibly through the DTE Energy Foundation Excellence in S.T.E.M. Endowed Program Fund at MCCC. The annual proceeds from the fund will advance, improve and support S.T.E.M. learning at MCCC in applied technology programs, including new equipment, recruitment, field trips, summer camps, mentorships, tutoring and programmatic student scholarships.
