MCCC LAUNCHES NEW RADIOGRAPHY, LOGISTICS PROGRAMS: New Programming a Major Focus of Strategic Plan

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has launched two new academic programs: Radiography, which is housed in the Health Sciences Division, and Logistics and Warehouse Management, which is housed in the Business Division.

The programs are enrolling for the 2025-26 academic year. Fall Semester beings in late August.

Innovating and maintaining relevant academic programming is a key objective of MCCC's strategic plan, according to MCCC President Dr. Kojo A. Quartey. Following a comprehensive assessment of its academic programming offerings, the college launched 10 new programs and certificates in 2024-25 and has followed that with the new Radiography and Logistics programs in 2025-26.

The Radiography program prepares students for work as radiologic technologists. Students who complete the program will earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiography.

Radiography is considered a high-demand and high wage occupation though 2030 in Southeast Michigan by the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics, which projects there will be 40 openings each year in the region and 24.1 percent annual growth through 2030. According to the CDA, the wage range in Southeast Michigan is $31-$38 per hour or $64,480-$79,040 based on a 40-hour work week.

MCCC’s Radiography program is offered through a partnership between MCCC, Bay College, the Michigan Workforce Training and Education Collaborative and the Educational Programs in Collaboration (EPiC) consortium. EPiC is a collaboration between Michigan Colleges Online, the Michigan Community College Association and 10 Michigan community colleges.

According to Dean of Health Sciences Helen Stripling, each college enrolls students in the program under the college’s admission criteria and each awards the degree according to that college’s requirements. All EPiC Consortium Radiography program partners are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Bay College provides faculty for occupational courses and clinicals, while MCCC provides faculty for general education courses and other degree requirements. MCCC awards the degree.

Upon completion of the program, students complete the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Radiography Certification exam (www.arrt.org).

The Radiography program is a competitive, selective admissions program, Stripling said. Applicants must meet minimum criteria to be considered. Only those applicants who meet minimum criteria and submit a completed application by the last Monday in April will be considered for entry into the radiography program for the Fall Semester 2025 start. Meeting minimum criteria does not ensure admission; rather, applicants are ranked using a points/selection criteria system. Applicants for the Radiography program tend to be well-qualified and will be accepted until each class is fully enrolled. New applicants will be accepted according to the selection criteria outlined below until a class is fully enrolled at a limit of up to 8 students per class.

MCCC's Logistics and Warehouse Management Program is designed to provide students with a general background in logistics and warehouse management and prepare them for careers as logisticians and related occupations.

Graduates of the program will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Logistics and potentially be prepared for entry-level employment as:

  • Logisticians
  • Warehouse managers
  • Transportation, storage and distribution managers
  • Cargo and freight agents
  • Purchasing managers
  • Inventory control managers
  • Logistics services salespersons
  • Industrial production managers

With the construction of the Gordie Howe Bridge crossing in Detroit as a third auto transport connection between the U.S. and Canada, it is expected that the 1-75 South corridor will see a significant increase in supply chain traffic, said Beverly Tomek, dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at MCCC and the interim dean of the Business Division. There is an expectation of a significant increase in warehousing and logistics needs in Monroe County. This program is designed to meet those needs, she said.

According to Lightcast, a global leader in labor market analytics, there is high job-posting demand in Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio and a deep supply of regional jobs. The compensation regionally is higher than the national media salary for logisticians. There were 4,896 employers for this kind of job regionally in 2022 compared to 2,851 nationally. There were 180 job postings per month regionally versus 108 nationally. The average salary for logisticians in 2022 regionally was $79,835. Nationally it was $77,022. Regional employment (2022 figures) is expected to grow by 22.5 percent by 2032 up to 6,000 jobs.
