The Consumers Energy Foundation has donated $5,000 to The Foundation at Monroe County Community College in support of the college’s annual Community and Cultural Events series and activities.
MCCC hosts a wide variety of programming, such as visiting art exhibits, children’s programming, live dance, theater, comedy and music to provide the community with opportunities for cultural enrichment.
While these events take place in various facilities across the MCCC campus, a majority occur in the college’s 550-seat La-Z-Boy Center, the community’s premier venue for cultural arts programming, community events, conferences, and business and industry training.
Financial support from season supporters such as the Consumers Energy Foundation allows MCCC to continue to make these cultural performances affordable for the community despite rising costs for performers, production expenses, technology and equipment.
“Arts and culture are essential to vibrant, successful communities,” said Dr. Joshua W. Meyers, executive director of The Foundation at MCCC. “Community partners like long-time supporter Consumers Energy Foundation allow MCCC to provide high-quality cultural enrichment that ordinarily is only available in larger metropolitan areas at higher prices.”
“Consumers Energy is dedicated to ensuring Michigan businesses and communities have access to the world-class cultural resources they need to grow,” said Cathy Wilson, secretary/treasurer of the Consumers Energy Foundation. “This is a wonderful series that provides cultural and educational opportunities, and we value the important role Monroe County Community College plays in the community.”
