The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Upward Bound Scholarship to Damiah Blackman, Skylar Gerweck-Myers and Esabella Morina. Each $500 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.
Blackman, of Monroe, is a 2024 Monroe High School graduate. She is focusing on her general education classes while attending MCCC. While at MHS, Damiah was a member of the National Honor Society, theater/drama club, choir and participated in Upward Bound. She is the daughter of Debonique Barnes.
Gerweck-Myers, of Monroe, is a 2024 Airport High School graduate. She is undecided about her area of study and is taking general education classes at MCCC. While attending AHS, Skylar was a member of the varsity soccer team, Varsity Voices, journalism/yearbook, participated in the Upward Bound program and volunteered at 2/42 Monroe Church. She is the daughter of Sean Myers and Megan Gerweck.
Morina, of Newport, is a 2024 graduate of Jefferson High School. She is undecided about her area of study and will be taking general education classes at MCCC. While attending JHS, Esabella played the tenor saxophone for concert band, was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in the Upward Bound program. She is the daughter of Meradith Morina.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a first-generation college student or meet income eligibility guidelines.
