The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Joanne D. Smith Memorial Scholarship to Hesse Sambaan. The $1,350 scholarship is used to cover costs of tuition, book and fees.
Sambaan, of Temperance, is a 2013 graduate of Ida High School. She is pursuing a nursing degree at MCCC. Hesse is an army veteran and works in healthcare as an LPN. Hesse is the daughter of Marikim Mathes and Louis Mathes and wife to Rad Flores.
To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be enrolled in a transfer program, maintain full-time student enrollment status of 12 credit hours, and a member of the College/Community Band or Agora Chorale during the scholarship year. Also, the student must be a U.S. citizen and a Monroe County, Mich. resident. Preference will be given to an Ida High School graduate and someone who demonstrates financial need.
Applications for scholarships awarded by The Foundation for the 2024 – 25 academic year are now being accepted. The online scholarship application is available at www.monroeccc.edu/scholarships. Returning and prospective students are encouraged to apply now for over 200 available scholarships for the upcoming academic year. Students have until March 1, 2024, to complete their scholarship application; however, it is recommended that students apply as soon as possible. Not all scholarships are need-based or require a high grade point average or full-time status. Many are program specific and are available in all traditional and technical career training programs.
