MONROE COUNTY RESIDENTS WHO GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN 2023 OR 2024 MAY QUALIFY FOR FREE TUITION AND FEES AT MCCC

Through the State of Michigan's new Community College Guarantee program, Monroe County residents who graduated from high school in 2023 and 2024 may be eligible for free tuition and fees at MCCC.

In addition to free tuition and fees, students who qualify for a Federal Pell Grant can receive a $1,000 Michigan Achievement Bonus award.

Estimated in-district annual tuition and fees for 2024 for a student who attends MCCC for Fall and Winter semesters -- 24 contact hours total -- are $3,384.48. Other special course fees may also apply, depending on course selection.

Those who reside outside of Monroe County are eligible to receive the Community College Guarantee to attend MCCC; however, it will cover only up to the cost of in-district tuition. Annual out-of-district tuition for 24 contact hours is estimated at $5,310.24.

The Community College Guarantee Program was funded in the state's Fiscal Year 2025 budget and is part of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship program. To be eligible, students must:

  • Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year. For dependent students, parent(s) must also meet this requirement.
  • Complete the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA).
  • Have graduated from high school or earned a high school graduation equivalency certificate in 2023 or 2024.
  • Enroll full time at MCCC within 15 months of the date of their high school graduation.
  • Meet MCCC's Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.

Additional eligibility requirements may apply. Students are not eligible if they are in default on a federal student loan.

“Our mission at MCCC is to improve people's lives by providing high-quality, educational opportunities that are accessible and affordable, and, of course, free is as affordable as you can get," said Joe Verkennes, director of marketing and communications.
