MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College will host a lecture, demonstration and month-long public display by Betzi Lievens as part of its Visiting Artist Series.

All will take place on the Main Campus, which is located at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. in Monroe.

The lecture will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Atrium of the La-Z-Boy Center. The demonstration will be held in Founders Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 3-4:30 p.m. Her work will be on public display from Oct. 22-Nov. 22 in the Library, which is located on the first floor of the Campbell Academic Center.

All events are free and open to the public. You must be at least 10 years old to attend the demonstration. For display visitors, the MCCC Library's hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m-8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday.

With a solid foundation in fine arts, Lievens honed her skills at MCCC and further developed her craft at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Known for her vibrant use of color and mastery of acrylic and oil on wood and canvas, she has become a prominent figure in the Detroit art scene since her debut in 2002.

Lievens' unique original paintings of women are at the heart of her creative expression. Each piece resonates with emotion, skillfully capturing the nuances of human experience that viewers can relate to on a personal level.

The Visiting Artist Series is presented by MCCC and The Foundation at MCCC. It is a component of the college’s 2024-25 Campus/Community Events Season, which is sponsored by The Foundation at MCCC, La-Z-Boy, Consumers Energy, First Merchants Bank and the DTE Energy Foundation.
