LOCAL ARTIST, DAVID LARKINS, TO VISIT MCCC ON FEBRUARY 27 FOR PRESENTATION, DEMONSTRATION AND PUBLIC DISPLAY

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, local award-winning artist David Larkins will host a workshop/demonstration from 1:30 - 4 p.m. in Founders Hall  (Room F 126) on Monroe County Community College's Main Campus, 1555 S. Raisinville Rd., Monroe. Supplies needed to participate in painting a Monet-inspired painting alongside Larkins during this workshop include a 16" x 20" or 18" x 24" canvas and the following acrylic paints (Liquitex heavy body is highly recommended): white, green gold, hookers green, hookers green deep, magenta medium, prism violet, yellow light and pyrrole red. 

In addition, Larkins will host a presentation from  6:30 - 8 p.m. in the La-Z-Boy Center Atrium. Both events are free and open to the public.

Following these events, there will be a month-long public display of Larkins work through March 27. The display will be housed in the MCCC Library in the Campbell Academic Center that is open to the public Monday - Thursday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Friday. 

Larkins is a native of Monroe and is an alumnus of MCCC. He won his first 'Best of Show' award at 16 and continued to refine his artistic talents throughout his 34-year career as a graphic illustrator for Ford Motor Company. His work has been featured at five solo exhibitions in Michigan and Ohio and juried exhibitions include seven years of “The Best of America Exhibit,” Toledo Museum of Art, The Butler Institute of American Art, and published in “The Artist Magazine." He also has exhibited at many fine art fairs, such as the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair and the Krasl Art on the Bluff, is an honorary Lifetime member of the Monroe Art League and a former member of the Monroe Fine Art Fair committee.
