The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Gwendolyn M. Jacob Memorial Scholarship to Brooke Benitez. The $2,550 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.
Benitez, of Monroe, is a 2021 graduate of Monroe High School. She is studying elementary childhood education with plans to transfer to the University of Toledo to pursue a bachelor’s degree and become a teacher. While attending MHS, Brooke was active in National Honor Society and Interact Club along with numerous community activities with Elevate Church. At MCCC, she is the secretary for Phi Theta Kappa honor society, a member of the Honors Program, is a tutor in the Student Success Center and has been named to the Dean’s List several times. She is the daughter of Jennifer O’Neil and Michael Benitez.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have graduated from Monroe High School, be enrolled in a transfer curriculum at MCCC, have a grade point average of 2.5 or above and maintain a full-time enrollment status of 12 credit hours.
