The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Eugene and Helen Beach Nursing/Respiratory Therapy scholarship to Alex Craig, Lori DeClercq, Kimberly Jennings, Andi Martin, Drew Warner and Abigail Weber. Each $2,150 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.
Craig, of Riverview, is a 2010 Southgate Anderson High School graduate. Alex is pursuing a degree in nursing while attending MCCC and is a member and treasurer of the Student Nurses Association, is a foster parent, former board treasurer for a multi-county non-profit organization and is a member of the National Guard. He is married to Alexis Craig and father to William, Emily, April, Henry and Carlito.
DeClercq, of Carleton, is a 1988 Airport High School graduate. Lori is pursuing a degree in nursing while attending MCCC and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Student Nurses Association, actively volunteers for various projects at DMC Children’s Hospital, ProMedica Monroe and Corewell Beaumont Trenton, where she won an award for a program recognizing the unique needs of veterans as patients. Lori is the mother of Anna DeClercq.
Jennings, of Southgate, received her GED in 1989. Kimberly is pursuing a degree in nursing while attending MCCC and is a member of the Student Nurses Association. In addition to being on the Dean’s List, she has volunteered for a number of health-related causes and activities with the elderly and children in the community, animal rescue and foster care and worked as a respiratory therapist. Kimberly is the mother of Michael and Eric Marshall and the daughter of Kathleen Jennings and James Jennings.
Martin, of Dundee, is a 2018 Monroe High School graduate. Andi is pursuing a degree in nursing while attending MCCC and is a member of the Student Nurses Association. Andi is the daughter of Angela Cunningham and Lawrence Martin.
Warner, of Monroe, is a 2018 Ida High School graduate. Drew is pursuing a degree in nursing at MCCC. She was active in IHS Student Council, band and band council, sideline cheer, drama group, Dollars for Scholars, and was dual enrolled, earning 17 college credits while still in high school, along with earning an academic letter. While at Eastern Michigan University was asked to join The National Society of Leadership and Success, an honor society; was a new student orientation assistant and volunteered at an area hospital for three years. She is a member of MCCC’s Student Nurses Association. She is the daughter of Dawn Adkins and Seth Adkins and is married to Caleb Warner.
Weber, of Dundee, is a 2016 Ida High School graduate. Abigail is pursuing a degree in nursing while attending MCCC. She is a member of Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Society, the Student Nurses Association and has consistently been named to the Dean’s List. Abigail is the fiancé of Noah Szabo.
To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be a Monroe County resident, a second-year student enrolled in the registered nursing or respiratory therapy program, demonstrates above average clinical and performance, and a high degree of personal and professional integrity.
