The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the C. Ernest Read Scholarship to Brooklyn Kayson. The $1,350 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies.
Kayson, of South Rockwood, is a 2021 graduate of Airport High School. Brooklyn is studying graphic design – digital media at MCCC. She is a notetaker with the Disability Support Services department, a Writing Fellow tutor and is a student employee in the Campus Store. She is also working toward a Global Studies Degree Designation, is a member of MCCC’s Honor Program and Phi Theta Kappa. Brooklyn is the daughter of Justin and Melissa Kayson.
This scholarship was established by the estate of C. Ernest Read, one of the founders of MCCC. Read was actively involved in the early stages of planning the MCCC campus and served on the committee that created the initial guidelines for its development.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above, have earned 24 credit hours and be active in a recognized college organization.
