The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Roy and Bobbie Turner Memorial Scholarship to Olivia Merkle. The $1,200 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.
Merkle, of Monroe, is a 2021 Monroe High School graduate. She is taking general education courses at MCCC and has worked as a student notetaker. She is an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and helps out at Merkle Funeral Service. Olivia is the daughter of Brian and Tammy Merkle.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a Monroe County, MI, resident and a Monroe County firefighter or the child or grandchild of a local (Monroe County) firefighter. Additionally, the student must have a minimum of 2.5 grade point average and must maintain full-time enrollment status of at least 12 credit hours per semester.
