Richards photoThe Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Joanne D. Smith Memorial Scholarship to Alyssa Richards. The $1,350 scholarship is used to cover costs of tuition, book and fees.

Richards, of Ida, is a 2018 graduate of Ida High School. She is pursuing a nursing degree at MCCC where she is a member of the Student Nurses Association and is also involved in Planned Pethood. Alyssa is the daughter of Jeff and Renee Richards.

To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be enrolled in a transfer program, maintain full-time student enrollment status of 12 credit hours, and a member of the College/Community Band or Agora Chorale during the scholarship year. Also, the student must be a U.S. citizen and a Monroe County, Mich. resident. Preference will be given to an Ida High School graduate and someone who demonstrates financial need.
