Allison Organ PhotoThe Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the President Emeritus Dr. Ronald Campbell and Blondelle Campbell Scholarship to Allison Organ. The $1,350 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies.

Organ, of Lambertville, is a 2020 graduate of Bedford Senior High School. She is studying nursing while attending MCCC. Allison is the daughter of Stacey and Tim Organ.

To be eligible the student must be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan, demonstrate academic excellence, and maintain at least a part-time enrollment at MCCC. Preference will be given to a student who is an active member of the MCCC Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and demonstrates financial need.

Dr. Campbell established the scholarship in 2017 with an initial gift of $20,000. The first scholarship was awarded in 2018 from proceeds from the investment of the gift. Both he and Delle were professional educators for many years.

Dr. Campbell was named the first president of MCCC in 1965, a role in which he served for 20 years. During his tenure at MCCC he oversaw the construction of the initial four buildings that created the campus on Raisinville Road in Monroe, the hiring of the initial group of instructors and staff, the addition of dozens of new degree, certificate and training programs in response to changing needs of industry and businesses in Monroe County and the region. When he retired, the MCCC Learning Resource Center was renamed the Dr. Ronald Campbell Learning Resource Center in recognition of his commitment and service to the college and the community.

Dr. Campbell celebrated his 97th birthday this year. On August 12, 2022, he will once again be honored with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and rededication of the significantly renovated Campbell Academic Center.

“My mission was to create an intellectually accredited institution that would earn the respect of the local community as well as that of higher education in Michigan,” said Dr. Campbell. “My challenge was much more than the erection of brick and mortar. The character of the institution would be defined through the selection of its personnel. Without these dedicated individuals, the brick and mortar would be a hollow entity. I hope that the scholarships being provided to the MCCC students through this endowment fund will encourage them to reciprocate when they have the means to contribute to assist another student in need.”
