Monroe County Community College has announced new hours of operation for the college's recently opened Food Pantry for students. Beginning Monday, February 14, 2022, the MCCC Food Pantry will be open during the following days and hours through the Winter 2022 semester:
Mondays: 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Tuesdays: 12:30 - 2 p.m.
Wednesdays: 4:30 - 6 p.m.
These hours of operation will be in effect until April 27, 2022. The MCCC Food Pantry, which is located just off the dining hall of the Warrick Student Services/Administration Building, is available to all currently registered students of MCCC. A wide variety of healthy food options and household, hygiene and baby products are available. Product availability does vary, however every effort is made to source and provide students with high demand products. Students may be referred to other food bank or pantry resources in the community as necessary as well.
The MCCC Food Pantry is an important partnership between the college, The Foundation at MCCC and the Monroe County Opportunity Program. Nearly a third of MCCC students have demonstrated signs of low food security according to a recent Trellis Company research survey on student financial wellness. The same study found that nearly 40 percent of MCCC students have run out of money three or more times in the past year.
“No student should ever have to choose between continuing their studies and putting food on the table. Basic needs are now the core of what we are trying to meet through The Foundation at MCCC, because we know a student who is hungry, lacks transportation or is homeless is unlikely to succeed,” said Dr. Joshua W. Myers, executive director of The Foundation at MCCC. “We want our students to complete their studies at MCCC and drive up not only their economic trajectory, but also the economic trajectory of their entire family.”
