On April 6, Monroe County Community College's Applied Science and Engineering Technology Division will host a presentation by SEMCA Michigan Works! on the Michigan Learning and Advancement Program (MiLEAP) grant that provides job seekers short-term education and training opportunities.
The presentation will take place in the Career Technology Center, Room 152 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. No registration is required, and the event is free and open to the public.
MiLEAP provides a pathway to high-wage employment and career opportunities through individualized competency-based assessments and learning plans that may include skills assessments, remote learning opportunities, high school completion, contextual learning and industry-recognized credential attainment. Grant funding can be used for training and related training expenses, such as tuition, textbooks, student uniforms, safety gear, childcare, transportation vouchers and other items necessary to start and/or retain employment as needed on an individual basis.
Michigan Works! makes all determinations on participant eligibility. Participants must register for the program with the local Michigan Works! American Job Center. Some training programs that could be funded through MiLEAP include, but are not limited to: welding, certified nurse aide, phlebotomy, CNC, computer aided design, OSHA 30, Solidworks, Microsoft Word programs, sterile processing, pesticide applications, non-destructive testing and medical assisting. Training programs can include credit or noncredit courses. All training programs will result in an industry recognized credential, certification or certificate of completion.

The Michigan Learning and Education Advancement Program is a workforce training program made possible by a $17.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Education Stabilization Fund - Reimagine Workforce Preparation Program provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Securities Act of 2020.
