Monroe County Community College will be offering an eight-week Certified Nurse Aide during the Summer 2022 Semester. Beginning Tuesday, June 7, students will attend in-person classes on MCCC’s Main Campus on Raisinville Road in Monroe, Mich. from 8:30 – 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays – Thursdays through July 26. Clinical-setting sessions will be held at an area healthcare facility beginning Monday, July 18 from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Mondays – Thursdays through July 26.

The CNA course is designed to prepare students to fulfill the role of direct caregiver/nurse aide and emphasizes the skills and behaviors that are significant to the role of nurse aides, a career that is in high demand in the region. The course includes classroom activities, skills practice time in the laboratory, and supervised clinical practice in the healthcare environment. Student knowledge and competency are assessed routinely to determine achievement of the course outcomes.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the clinical and written exams required for certification as a nurse aide in the State of Michigan. The average CNA salary in Michigan is approximately $28,000 per year. Employment opportunities are favorable and exist in long-term care settings, acute care hospitals, in-home healthcare organizations and community settings. CNA certification and experience working in the field often serves as a first step for those interested in a nursing career and pursuing higher education qualifications in the profession.

Tuition for the 10 billable contact hour course is $1,167.50 for in-district residents ($2075.00 for out-of-district). In addition, estimated fees for the course include uniforms and supplies $45.00; BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR Training $61.00 and State of Michigan Certification Exam $176.50 (reimbursement-eligible expense through first employer).
