The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Sonya Kay Brett Business and Computer Information Systems Endowed Memorial Scholarship to Lucas Goins and Alliyah Trim. Each $1,700 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees and books.
Goins, of Monroe, is a 2019 graduate of Airport High School. He is studying cyber security at MCCC. Goins volunteers with his youth group, Monroe Vicariate Teens. Lucas is the son of Becky and Jeff Goins.
Trim, of Erie, is a 2019 graduate of Monroe High School. She is working on her second associate degree for business management at MCCC. Alliyah is the daughter of Kimberly and Delmar Moore.
To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must be enrolled in either a business or computer information systems program, have completed 24 credit hours or more and have a GPA of 2.8 or above. The applicant must be a resident of Monroe County, Mich. and a U.S. citizen. Also, the student must maintain full-time student status during the scholarship year, which is defined as 12 credit hours.
