The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Richard H. Hicks and Bernice Hicks Nursing Education Scholarships to Barbara Boone, Victoria Porter, Jessica Sisk and Christina Vail. Each $1,550 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.
Boone, of Monroe, is a 1995 graduate of Bowsher High School, Toledo, Ohio. She is studying nursing at MCCC. She is the mother to Devonte, Devin, Aliyah, Clifton and Andre and daughter of Glen and Julie Boone.
Porter, of Temperance, is a 2021 graduate of Monroe County Middle College. She is studying nursing at MCCC and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a notetaker with MCCC’s Disability Services Office. She is the daughter of Keri and Paul Porter.
Sisk, of Monroe, is a 2002 graduate of Westland Christian Academy, Westland, Michigan. She is studying nursing while attending MCCC and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Jessica is the wife to Jesse and mother to Gabriella

Vail, of Southgate, is a 1996 graduate of Riverview Community High School, Riverview, Michigan. She is studying nursing at MCCC and is a member of the Student Nurses Association. Vail volunteers in her son’s classroom as a ‘room mom’. Christina is the mother to Nicholas and daughter of George and Lynette Vail.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be enrolled in the registered nursing program at MCCC. Preference will be given to students who are veterans or those who have immediate family members who are veterans.
