The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Helen M. and Eugene W. Beach Nursing/Respiratory Therapy Scholarship to Drew Atkins, Michelle Bodary, Gabrielle Hurley, Laura Johnecheck and Cassandra Kish. Each $2,160 scholarship is to be used for tuition and fees.
Atkins, of Monroe, is a 2018 graduate of Ida High School. She is studying nursing at MCCC and is a member of the Student Nurses Association. Drew is the daughter of Dawn and Seth Adkins.
Bodary, of Flat Rock, is a 2015 graduate of Flat Rock High School. She is pursuing a nursing degree at MCCC. She recently was chosen class representative for her cohort taking on responsibilities of being the voice for her classmates. Michelle is the daughter of David and Andrea Bodary.
Hurley, of Dundee, is a 2019 graduate of Dundee High School. She is studying respiratory therapy at MCCC and was elected president of the Respiratory Therapy Club in 2020. Gabby is the daughter of Bob and Nicole Hurley.
Johnecheck, of Brownstown, is a 1991 graduate of Gaylord High School, in Gaylord, Michigan. She is studying respiratory therapy at MCCC. Johnecheck is co-treasurer of the Respiratory Therapy Club, student representative for the MCCC Respiratory Therapy Advisory Committee, Monroe County Health Department COVID-19 volunteer, student member of Michigan Society for Respiratory Care and American Association for Respiratory Care. Laura is the mother to Andrew and Matthew.
Kish, of Temperance, is a 2018 graduate of Monroe County Middle College. She is studying nursing at MCCC. Kish volunteers with Bridgepoint Church with their youth and children’s ministry. She is the wife to Dalton.
To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be a Monroe County resident, a second-year student enrolled in the registered nursing or respiratory therapy program, demonstrates above average clinical performance and a high degree of personal and professional integrity.
