The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Betty Swartout Memorial Scholarship to Mariah Cousino. The $1,000 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies.
Cousino, of Temperance, is a 2021 graduate of Mason Senior High School. While at MCCC, she will be taking prerequisites for teaching elementary education. Cousino has been involved in Dollars for Scholars. She is the daughter of Anthony Cousino and the late Sally Cousino.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above, is entering their second-year as a student in the pre-education transfer program or planning to pursue a degree in the field of elementary education. Majors of study include degrees in early childhood development or teacher paraprofessional with a commitment to complete studies in a baccalaureate elementary education program. Applicants must have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average, be a Monroe County resident and preference will be given to students who attended Monroe Public Schools, Monroe, Mich.
