Monroe County Community College is once again offering its Certified Nurse Aid non-credit course this summer. The CNA course, offered in partnership with ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital and Michigan Works! American Job Center, consists of 123 hours of classroom and clinical training. The course will meet June 14 - July 1Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. from June 14 – July 1 at MCCC. In addition, students will attend clinical activities Monday, July 5 – Friday, July 9 from 7 a.m. - 3 :30 p.m.
The CNA course is designed to prepare an individual to fulfill the role of direct caregiver/nursing aide. The course emphasizes the skills and behaviors that are significant to the role of nurse aides and includes classroom activities, skills practice time in the laboratory and supervised clinical practice in the healthcare environment. Student knowledge and competency are assessed routinely to determine achievement of the course outcomes.
“Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the clinical and written exams required for certification as a nursing aide in the State of Michigan,” said Barry Kinsey, director of workforce development at MCCC. “We encourage students to register for the course as soon as possible since it is limited to only eight participants.”
The cost is $2,000 per person plus miscellaneous fees, which may be higher or lower than the estimated costs listed below.
- Uniforms and supplies: $45
- BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR Training $61.00 (online instruction with in- person assessments to be scheduled at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital by appointment only. The college is working to establish a face-to-face option for this training, with proper social distancing.)
- State Certification Exam: $176.50
