Monroe County Community College has awarded Presidential Scholarships at MCCC to Brooke Benitez, Caleb Comstock, Alyssa Cousino, Evan Dyer, Brook Montri, Tori Potter and Josie Sonnenberg.
The scholarships are to be used for tuition and fees for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Benitez, of Monroe, is a 2021 graduate of Monroe High School. She will be studying nursing while attending MCCC. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Interact Club at MHS where she was also on the honor roll, receiving all A’s and received attendance awards. Brooke is the granddaughter of Debra and Daniel Massingo.
Comstock, of Dundee, is a 2021 Dundee High School graduate. He will be studying nuclear engineering while attending MCCC. He was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and is a 13-year 4-H member with the Dundee Achievers 4-H Club. While attending DHS he was involved in football, track, band, the trap team and FFA. Caleb is the son of Dan and LeeAnn Comstock.
Cousino, of Carleton, is a 2021 graduate of Airport High School. She will be studying interior design or environmental sciences while attending MCCC. While attending AHS, she was a member of the marching band, the jazz band, softball team, bowling team, and volleyball team. She is a 4-H club member and involved in her church youth group. She is the daughter of Dan and Heather Cousino.
Dyer, of Ottawa Lake, is a 2021 graduate of State Line Christian School. He will be studying pre-physical therapy while attending MCCC. While attending SLCS, he played on the basketball and intramural indoor soccer teams and was in the choir. When he attended Whiteford High School he was a member of the National Honor Society and was on the football and basketball teams. Dyer is a member of Bedford Alliance Church where he teaches K-2 grade boys. Evan is the son of Joshua and Emily Dyer.
Montri, of Ida, is magna cum laude 2021 graduate of Ida High School. She will be studying nursing at MCCC. While attending IHS, she was involved in the Ida Key Club, LINKS Program and Ida Early Middle College. Brooke is the daughter of Mike and Diane Montri.
Potter, of Petersburg, is a 2021 graduate of Ida High School. She plans to study education/social work while attending MCCC. While attending IHS, she was on the student council, secretary of the class of 2021, National Honor Society member and Young Life participant. She was also a member of the volleyball team, track and field team and involved with her church’s youth group. Tori is the daughter of Terry and Denise Potter.
Sonnenberg, of Ottawa Lake, is a 2021 Whiteford High School graduate. She is studying agribusiness at MCCC. While attending WHS, she was a member of FFA, National Honor Society, Student Prevention Leadership Team (SPLT) and the softball team. Josie is the daughter of Juliann Stevens.
To be eligible for the MCCC Presidential Scholarship, a student must be a Monroe County, Michigan, resident, must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better, exhibited leadership qualities, demonstrated participation in school and/or community affairs and must be enrolled for 12 or more credit hours per semester at MCCC.
