Monroe County Community College has awarded performing music scholarships (band and choir) to Ronald Burgard III, Angelina Duarte, Lily Hatkow, Savannah Hoffman, Owen Hoffner, Aleyna Marketto, Zackary Masserant and Ryan Pierce.
The scholarships cover tuition and fees for the 2021-2022 academic year. Scholarship recipients are participating in either the MCCC College/Community Symphony Band or Agora Chorale. Each scholarship is renewable for a second year if the student has maintained a high standard of conduct and work.
This year’s recipients are:
Ronald Burgard III, of Carleton, is a 2021 graduate of Monroe High School. He is attending MCCC taking general studies classes. Burgard is a member of 4H and shows goats at the Monroe County Fair. Ronald is the son of Ronald and Kimberlie Burgard, II.
Angelina Duarte, of Temperance, is a 2021 graduate of Bedford High School. She will be taking courses leading toward a degree in mortuary science and music while attending MCCC. While attending BHS, Duarte has been a member of Vocalistas which is a female large ensemble, competed at Michigan School Vocal Music Association and Solo & Ensemble Festival and was in drama and was inducted as a member of International Thespian Society. Gina is the daughter of Armando and Sarah Duarte.
Lily Hartkow, of Dundee, is a 2021 home school graduate. She is studying general education courses while attending MCCC. Hartkow is a volunteer at St. John Lutheran Church and has performed with the choral at the Memorial Day in Dundee, IHM Motherhouse and IHM Choir Invitational. Lily is the daughter of Scott Hatkow and Michelle Hatkow.
Savannah Hoffman, of Monroe, is a 2021 graduate of Dundee High School. She will be taking general education courses while attending MCCC. While attending DHS, Hoffman was a member of the Student Prevention Leadership Team (SPLT) and Diversity Awareness Club. Savannah is the daughter of Tiffanie and Christopher Hoffman.
Owen Hoffner, of Monroe, is a 2021 graduate of Monroe High School. He plans to study CNC machining while attending MCCC. Hoffner was a member of MHS Trojan Marching Band and National Honor Society. Owen is the son of Jason and Jessica Hoffner.
Aleyna Marketto, of Petersburg, is a 2021 graduate of Ida High School. She plans to study music while attending MCCC. While attending IHS, Marketto was a member of Tri-M-A Honor Music Society, Marching Band, Concert Band, President and Founder of the IHS’s Glee Club. Aleyna is the daughter of Simone and Jason Turner.
Zackary Masserant, of Newport, is a 2021 graduate of Jefferson High School. He plans to study nursing while attending MCCC. Masserant teaches and mentors kids in martial arts at the Professional Karate Schools of America. Zackary is the son of Ryan and Rebecca Masserant.
Ryan Pierce, of South Rockwood, is a 2021 graduate of Airport High School. He is studying electrical engineering technology while attending MCCC. He is the son of Lisa and Dale Pierce.
