FACULTY OF THE YEAR AWARDS ANNOUNCED BY MONROE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Dr. Nicole Garner, Full-Time Faculty of Year Award
MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College honored Dr. Nicole Garner as the 2021 recipient of the Outstanding Fill-Time Faculty Award, one of two faculty awards presented each year by the college, as announced by Dr. Grace Yackee, vice president of instruction for the college.
Dr. Nicole Garner, a Sylvania, Ohio resident, started her career at MCCC as a professor of Nursing in 2009. “Garner has been an integral contributor to the nursing program and College at large ever since.” said Dr. Yackee. “The list of Nicole’s leadership positions and her engagement in program and MCCC committees, task forces, and initiatives is endless, including accreditation through the Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), assessment of student learning, strategic planning, curriculum development and evaluation, and program evaluation.”
“Nicole is an expert nursing educator” according to Dr. Kim Lindquist, dean of MCCC’s Health Sciences Division/director of nursing. “She is very well received by all her students and is a constant source of support and guidance, especially to her fundamental nursing students as they try to figure out how to be successful in a rigorous and demanding nursing program.”
Nicole recently completed a doctorate in nursing from Walden University and holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in nursing from Eastern Michigan University and Bowling Green State University, respectively. In her spare time, she volunteers for parent/teacher organizations and is a leader for her daughter Lilly’s Girl Scout troop.
