The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the LaVerne B. Norton Scholarship to Amy DeGrand, Kari Foster, Brittany Good, Kristina Gucwa, Tiffany Keck, Madison Keesee, Emilia Lewandowski, Leah Robinson, Jordan Self, Ashley Shankleton, Ashley Stevenson and Madeline Thomas. Each $2,050 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books, and fees.
DeGrand of Monroe is a 1993 graduate of Erie Mason High School. She will be studying communications while attending MCCC. She is a volunteer for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. She is the wife to Stephen, mother to Tyler and Ysabe,l and daughter to Pamela and Mark Mulligan.
Foster of Dundee is a 2000 graduate of Dundee High School. She will be studying CIS: Office Professional while attending MCCC. She is the mother to Jacob and Josh, and daughter to Mark and Brenda York.
Good of Monroe is a 2013 graduate of Trenton High School. She is studying nursing while attending MCCC. Good is a member of the Student Nurses Association at MCCC. She is the daughter of Jaime Good.
Gucwa of Carleton is a 2013 graduate of Oscar A. Carlson High School. She is studying nursing while attending MCCC and is a member of the Student Nurses Association. Gucwa is the mother to Allison Pek.
Keck of Ida is a 2009 Phoenix Academy graduate. She is pursuing a nursing degree while attending MCCC. She has coached her son’s tee ball team and was an assistant football coach. Keck is the mother of Bentley.
Keesee of La Salle is a 2020 graduate of St. Mary Catholic Central High School. She will be studying nursing while attending MCCC. Keesee volunteers for God Works! Soup Kitchen and St. Joseph’s Center for Hope food pantry. She is the daughter of Sheree Williamson.
Lewandowski of Erie is a 2016 graduate of Instituto Jose Antonio Alvarez Condarco in Argentina. She is pursuing an associate degree while attending MCCC with plans to transfer to complete a bachelor degree in mortuary science. Lewandowski is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and is a Note Taker. She is the daughter of Roberto and Haydee Lewandowski.
Robinson of South Rockwood is a 2016 graduate of Airport High School. She is pursuing an associate degree with plans to transfer and earn her bachelor degree in architecture. Robinson is a Writing Fellow, a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a volunteer at her church. She is the wife of Andrew and daughter to Dawn and Gerald McDonald.
Self of Monroe is a 2019 graduate of Monroe High School. She is at MCCC to pursue a social worker degree. She is a member of the YMCA Teen Leaders Club volunteering for events. She is the daughter of Gregory Self.
Shankleton of Monroe is a 2005 graduate of Ida High School. She is studying business management while attending MCCC. Shankleton is a volunteer for Relay for Life and Midway Products Group. She is the wife to Aaron, mother to Emily and daughter to Michael La Hote.
Stevenson of Monroe is a 2011 graduate of Monroe High School. She is studying nursing while attending MCCC and is a member of the Student Nurses Association. She is the daughter of Tracy Wilburn.
Thomas of Monroe is a 2016 graduate of Jefferson High School. She is studying nursing while attending MCCC. She is the daughter of Kathy Homas.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must maintain part-time enrollment status of six (6) credit hours or more, demonstrate financial need and/or be a student with academic promise. Preference will be given to students who are residents of Monroe County and are single parents or students raised in a single-parent household.
