The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Helen M. and Eugene W. Beach Nursing/Respiratory Therapy Scholarship to Maria Brinkey, Kelli Demick, Brynn DuVall, Erin Maier and Stephanie Stevens. Each $2,300 scholarship is to be used for tuition and fees.
Brinkey of Monroe is a 2000 graduate of Port Huron High School. She is studying nursing while attending MCCC. She is currently a member of the MCCC Student Nurses Association. Due to Covid-19, she has been making and donating face masks to community members. Brinkey is the wife to Jeff, mother to Erik and Kaylee, and daughter to John Stroud and Deborah Coleman.
Demick of Gilbraltar is a 2000 graduate of River Rouge High School. She is studying respiratory therapy while attending MCCC. She is secretary of the Respiratory Therapy Club at MCCC. She helps feed the homeless through the Salvation Army and delivers Meals on Wheels. Demick is the mother of Lillian and Evr.
DuVall of Temperance is a 2017 graduate of Bedford High School. She is studying nursing while attending MCCC. DuVall is a volunteer for Bedford Fire Department and Bedford volleyball program. She is the daughter of Amy and Scott DuVall.
Maier of Maybee is a 2018 graduate of Dundee High School. She is studying nursing at MCCC. Maier is a member of the Student Nurses Association at MCCC. She is the daughter of Michelle and Joshua Maier.
Stevens of Monroe is a 2008 graduate of Monroe High School. She is also studying respiratory therapy at MCCC. She is treasurer of the Respiratory Therapy Club. She is the wife to Charles, mother to Madelyn, Makenzie and Maesyn and daughter of Steven and Schellie Baumia.
To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be a Monroe County resident, a second-year student enrolled in the registered nursing or respiratory therapy program, demonstrates above average clinical performance and a high degree of personal and professional integrity.
