The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Betty Swartout Memorial Scholarship to Kayla Webster. The $1,000 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies.
Webster of Carleton is a 2018 graduate of Airport High School. She is studying early childhood development while attending MCCC. Webster was in the Upward Bound Program and is the daughter of Jamie and Kyle McLaughlin.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above, is entering their second-year as a student in the pre-education transfer program or planning to pursue a degree in the field of elementary education. Majors of study include degrees in early childhood development or teacher paraprofessional with a commitment to complete studies in a baccalaureate elementary education program. Applicants must have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average, be a Monroe County resident and preference will be given to students who attended Monroe Public Schools, Monroe, Mich.
