Monroe County Community College has awarded performing music scholarships (band and choir) to 10 area student musicians.
The scholarships cover tuition and fees for the 2020-2021 academic year. Scholarship recipients are participating in either the MCCC College/Community Symphony Band or Agora Chorale. Each scholarship is renewable for a second year if the student has maintained a high standard of conduct and work.
This year’s recipients are:
Alyssa Bentley of Monroe is a homeschool graduate. She is attending MCCC taking general studies classes. Bentley is a member of MCCC’s Agora Chorale and Writing Fellows. Alyssa is the daughter of Paul and Sandra Bentley.
Liam Brodie of Monroe is a 2020 graduate of Monroe High School. He plans to pursue an associate degree in liberal arts while attending MCCC. Brodie was very active in sports while attending MHS, including hockey, football, basketball, baseball and golf. He was involved in Business Professionals of America, a member of the Pep Club MHS choir and Generations of Sound. Brodie is the son of Andrew and Tonya Brodie.
Jason Gallaher of Monroe is a 2020 graduate of Dundee High School. He will be taking courses leading toward a degree in sports medicine while attending MCCC. Gallaher help lead worship at Carleton Assembly of God Church. He is the son of Adrienne Walker and Jason Gallaher Sr.
Bradley Hanson of Temperance is a 2020 graduate of Ida High School. He is pursuing a drafting degree while attending MCCC. He is the son of Sue and Wes Hanson.
Emma Marion of Dundee is a 2020 graduate of Dundee High School. She plans to pursue a career in engineering while attending MCCC. While attending DHS, she was a member of the jazz, concert and marching bands, the varsity softball team, National Honor Society and took part in Future Farmers of America. She is the daughter of Mike and Lisa Marion.
Jordan McClure of Carleton is a 2020 graduate of Airport High School. She is undecided on her major while attending MCCC. McClure was a member of AHS marching and concert bands alongside the Haunted Forest. Jordan is the daughter of Renee and Arnold McClure.
Rosario Mexicano-Manzano of Monroe is a 2020 graduate of Monroe High School. She plans to study nursing while attending MCCC. She has been involved in several clubs while attending MHS, including Interact Club, Calculus Club, HOSA Club, Choir Council and was a member of the National Honor Society and choir. She is the daughter of Tomás Mexicano and Manuela Manzano.
Brady Pitcher of Monroe is a 2020 graduate of Monroe High School. He plans to pursue a career in engineering while attending MCCC. While attending MHS, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Generations of Sound Choir, and on the cross country and track teams. Brady is the son of Barri and Sarah Pitcher.
Fiona Vogt of Petersburg is a 2020 graduate of Summerfield High School. She is undecided on her major while she studies at MCCC. While attending SHS, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Summ’ Players theatre group and mathe rching and concert bands. Fiona is the daughter of Jon and Karin Vogt.
Olivia Zorn of La Salle is a 2020 graduate of Monroe High School. She is studying environmental science while attending MCCC. She was a member of MHS National Honor Society and Monroe County 4-H. Olivia is the daughter of David and Carol Zorn.
