MCCC Awards Performing Music Scholarships

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded performing music scholarships (band and choir) to 10 area student musicians.

The scholarships cover tuition and fees for the 2019-2020 academic year. Scholarship recipients are participating in either the MCCC College/Community Symphony Band or Agora Chorale. Each scholarship is renewable for a second year if the student has maintained a high standard of conduct and work.

This year’s recipients are:

Emilee Breitner of Ida is a 2019 graduate of Ida High School. She will be pursuing a degree in education while attending MCCC. Breitner is a member of the Drama Council, Band Council, National Honor Society and is president of Student Council. She is also involved in choir and 4H, is in the Blue Streak Buddy program at IHS and is a member of St. Gabriel’s Parish in Ida. Emilee is the daughter of Jeff and Lori Breitner.

Elisabeth Brockman of Monroe is a 2019 homeschool graduate. She plans to pursue an associate degree in humanities leading to a music therapy certificate while attending MCCC. She is an active member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a music director, Monroe Community Players, Destination Dance and Monroe County 4H. Brockman is a volunteer for the River Raisin National Battlefield Park and Monroe County Library System Summer Reading Program. Elisabeth is the daughter of Mary Amanda Brockman.

Nicholas Bunch of Monroe is a 2019 graduate of Monroe High School. He will be studying business management at MCCC. Bunch is a member of MHS Generations of Sound, Varsity Choir, Concert Choir and Acapella Choir. Nick is the son of Jeff and Jenny Bunch.

Haley Carros of Carleton is a 2019 graduate of Airport High School. She is studying music education at MCCC. Carros is a member of AHS marching and concert bands and Airports Haunted Forest. Haley is the daughter of Kris and Jason Carros.

Brooklyn Knight – no information was given.

Emma Laitur of Monroe is a 2019 graduate of Ida High School. She is undecided on her major while attending MCCC. Emma is the daughter of Tim and Karen Laitur.

Evan Marshall of Dundee is a 2019 graduate of Dundee High School. He plans to study psychology while attending MCCC. Evan is the son of Daniel and Dana Marshall.

Samuel Mohn of Monroe is a 2019 graduate of True Life Centers. He plans to pursue a career in mechanical design technology. Mohn is a member of the MCCC Robotics Club, VEX Team 3547: Virus, Adrian College Orchestra, Frenchtown Fiddlers and HEMA Band. He is a certified SolidWorks associate. Samuel is the son of Mike and Kim Mohn.

Abigail Nisley of Carleton is a 2018 homeschooled graduate. She is pursuing a degree to be an American Sign Language translator. She is a MCCC writing fellow, member of the Agora Chorale and Van Born Baptist Church. Abbey is the daughter of Terry and Michelle Nisley.

Faith Zorn of La Salle is a 2019 graduate of Monroe High School. She is undecided on her major while attending MCCC. She was a member of MHS marching band, Teen Leaders Club and 4H. Faith is the daughter of David and Carol Zorn.
