Disability Employment Awareness Panel Discussion on Oct. 10

MONROE, Mich. – On Thursday, October 10, Monroe County Community College will host a panel discussion focused on the challenges, opportunities and successes those with disabilities have experienced navigating school and work situations.

The discussion will be held on MCCC’s main campus on Raisinville Road in the Dining Room of the Audrey M. Warrick Administration Building. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with welcoming remarks from Kristine Gerlach, MCCC disability services coordinator, along with Erica Bolt, counselor, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, co-sponsoring organization for the event, and Marie May, Monroe site manager from MRS. 

A panel discussion featuring a wide variety of local professionals will follow. Participating panelists include Angie Snell, music therapist from the Monroe County Intermediate School District; Rebecca Lewis, owner of Straight N Arrow Counseling Center; Dr. Daniel Lis Jr., pediatrician at Care 4 You Pediatrics; Kelly Meadows, site manager, Monroe Center for Independent Living; Thomas Adamich, technical service/reference librarian, MCCC; Madison Howard, respiratory therapy student at MCCC and Celeste Williams, social work student, MCCC.

An interactive question and answer session will follow the panel discussion. The event is free and open to the public.

The panel discussion is being held in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Established in 1945, NDEAM is a U.S. Department of Labor sponsored national campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities.
