The Foundation At MCCC Awards The Betty Swartout Memorial Scholarship

MONROE, Mich. – The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Betty Swartout Memorial Scholarship to Kooki Simonelli. The $1,000 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies.

Simonelli of Monroe is a 1995 graduate of Airport High School. She is attending MCCC for two years before transferring to a four-year university to pursue a career in elementary education. Kooki is the spouse of Thomas Simonelli and mother to Lindsay and Sophia Simonelli.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above, in entering their second-year as a student in the pre-education transfer program or planning to pursue a degree in the field of elementary education. Majors of study include degrees in early childhood development or teacher paraprofessional with a commitment to complete studies in a baccalaureate elementary education program. Applicants must have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average, be a Monroe County resident and preference will be given to students who attended Monroe Public Schools, Monroe, Mich.
