MONROE, Mich. – As part of Monroe County Community College’s Visiting Artist Series, Monroe County Community College will host a lecture and month-long public display by glass sculptor Melanie Hunter.
The lecture will take place on March 13 from 6-7 p.m. in Room 173ab of the Audrey M. Warrick Student Services/Administration Building on MCCC’s Main Campus.
In addition, Wagner’s work will be on public display from March 13-April 30 in the MCCC Library, which is located in the Campbell Learning Resource Center on the college’s Main Campus at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd., Monroe.
Both the lecture and the display are free and open to the public.
The MCCC Library is open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
Hunter has been working in the field of glass sculpture for more than 25 years. She maintains her own sculpture studio in Bloomington, Illinois, creating mixed media sculpture and bespoke works by commission. She is the glass casting technician artist Nicolas Africano, assisting in the creation of glass and mixed media figurative works since 1993. Hunter has developed specific techniques particular to glass casting and fabrication, creating substantial and diverse collections of work exhibited throughout the U.S.
Born in Jarrow, England, she holds a bachelor of arts degree in studio glass and ceramics from Sunderland University in England and a master of fine arts degree in glass from Illinois State University.
The Visiting Artists series is a component of the college’s 2017-18 Campus/Community Events Season. The season is sponsored by MCCC, The Foundation at MCCC, La-Z-Boy Inc., DTE Energy Foundation, Monroe Bank & Trust and Consumers Energy.
