MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College President Dr. Kojo A. Quartey will present the State of the College Address to the Community on May 31 from 7:30-9 a.m. at the headquarters of Monroe Bank & Trust.
The event, which is open to the public, will be held in the 4th Floor Assembly Room. MBT’s headquarters are located at 10 Washington St. in Downtown Monroe.
Quartey, the fifth president of MCCC, will complete his fifth full year in office this summer.
At the address, Quartey will update the community on the status of projects that are part of the college’s 5-year Maintenance and Improvement Millage. Among the projects he will discuss will be two that are very near completion – major exterior structural repairs to the Life Science Building and the student collaboration area addition to that facility. He will also discuss the floor plan for the renovation to the East and West Technology buildings, which will be combined into one building to house numerous services geared toward student success, state-of-the art classrooms and computer labs, an abundance of adaptable student lounge areas and work spaces, and several college departments.
Quartey will discuss the status of several grants projects recently awarded to the college. These include an agricultural grant, as well National Science Foundation and NEXUS grants in the area of welding technology.
He will address MCCC’s efforts to prepare individuals for manufacturing apprenticeships and skilled trades careers through the Advance Michigan Catalyst, a $6 million, four-year grant provided by the U.S. Department of Labor to train Michigan workers in robotics and automation. The Workforce Intelligence Network for Southeast Michigan is managing the grant in an effort to align talent with employer and economic development needs in the region. Monroe County Community College is one of the 10 Michigan-based community colleges providing the training.
