MCCC Awards Presidential Scholarships

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded Presidential Scholarships at MCCC to Makenna Baldwin, Drew Cousino, Alexis Marie Cowell, Cassidy Dixon, Margaret Fleming, Tessa Garlepied, Madalynne Polly, McKenzie Salenbien, Lauren Sevenbergen, and Hannah Tuller.

The scholarships are to be used for tuition and fees.

Baldwin of Newport is a 2018 graduate of Airport High School. She will be studying biology while attending MCCC.

Cousino of Carleton is a 2018 Airport High School graduate. He will be studying mechanical engineering while attending MCCC. Cousin is a member of National Honor Society, Youth in Government, Monroe County 4-H, and Airport varsity bowling. Cousino is the son of Dan and Heather Cousino.

Cowell of Monroe is a 2018 graduate of Monroe High School. She will be studying business while attending MCCC. Cowell is a member of National Honors Society, Trojan Impact, S-Club and Project Unify. She is also a mentor for a Unify basketball team that will be going to Seattle for the 2018 Special Olympic Games. Cowell is the daughter of Mary and Jerry Cowell of Monroe.

Dixon of Ottawa Lake is a 2018 graduate of Whiteford High School. She will be studying nursing while attending MCCC. Dixon is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Prevention Leadership Team and 4-H. She also volunteers at her local church’s youth group.

Fleming of Monroe is a 2018 graduate of Saint Mary Catholic Central. Fleming is a member of Interact Club, Student Ambassadors, and the varsity swimming, diving and tennis teams. Fleming will be studying pre-occupational therapy while attending MCCC. She is the daughter of Bart and Mary Fleming.

Garlepied of Monroe is a 2018 homeschool graduate. Garlepied will be studying pre- engineering while attending MCCC. She is a member of the MCCC robotics team, Virus 3547, and also participated as student ambassador at the VEX WORLDS competition. Garlepied is the daughter of Machel and Clarence Garlepied.

Polly of Monroe is a 2018 graduate of Jefferson High School. Polly will be studying nursing while attending MCCC.

Salenbien of Dundee is a 2018 graduate of Dundee High School. Salenbien plans to go into a career in cardiovascular sonography. She participates in varsity volleyball at Dundee and is a member of the National Honors Society, Student Council and Interact Club. Salenbien has received multiple Future Farmers of America awards, including the Outstanding FFA Student Award. Salenbien is the daughter of Keri and Leon Salenbien Jr. of Dundee.

Sevenbergen of Ida is a 2018 graduate of Ida High School. She participates in Ida High School competitive cheerleading, Ida Community Key Club, Young Life, Bluestreak Buddy Program and LINKS. Sevenbergen is the daughter of Nicole Diaz and Ryan Sevenbergen.

Tuller of Petersburg is a 2018 graduate of Ida High School. She will be studying nursing while attending MCCC. Tuller is a member of the National Honors Society, Student Council and Class Vice President. Tuller was also named Government Student of the Year. Hannah’s parents are Matthew and Kelli Tuller.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a Monroe County, Michigan, resident, must have a GPA 3.5 or better, exhibited leadership qualities, demonstrated participation in school and/or community affairs and must be enrolled for 12 or more credit hours per semester.
