MCCC Awards Performing Music Scholarships

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded performing music scholarships (band and choir) to five area student musicians.

The scholarships cover tuition and fees for the 2018-2019 academic year. Scholarship recipients are participating in either the MCCC College/Community Symphony Band or Agora Chorale. Each scholarship is renewable for a second year if the student has maintained a high standard of conduct and work.

This year’s recipients are:

Taylor R. Brant of Ida is a 2018 Ida High School graduate. Brant will be studying office administration while attending MCCC. Brant is a member of Kids Club, a non-denominational children’s bible study.

Ryan Langton of Monroe is a 2018 graduate of Ida High School. Langton will be studying pre- engineering at MCCC. He is the son of Michael and Carrie Langton.

Madyson McCollum of LaSalle is a 2018 graduate of Monroe High School. She will be studying culinary arts at MCCC. McCollum is a member of multiple community choirs, including MCCC’s Agora Chorale. Madyson is the daughter of John and Rebecca McCollum.

Madison Sekmistrz of Carleton is a 2018 graduate of Airport High School. Sekmistrz is involved in varsity sideline and competitive cheerleading, varsity track and field, solo ensemble and Interact Club. Madison is the daughter of Jalonda and Thomas Sekmistrz.

Sierra Pitock, plans on studying accounting while attending MCCC. Pitock was a member of MESA (Math, Engineering, Science, and Achievement) Club at Yuba College in Marysville, Calif. while earning her associate degree in natural science. Sierra is the daughter of Thomas and Tammy Pitock.
