MCCC to Offer Millwright Rigging Training Program in September

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe Country Community College will offer a Millwright Rigging Program in partnership with Royal Arc Industrial Services from Sept. 19-21 in Room 259 of the La-Z-Boy Center.

The non-credit program will be offered through MCCC’s Corporate and Community Services Division.  Trainees who successfully complete the program will earn 24 classroom hours (2.4 CEUs).  The training will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The cost is $859 per person, which includes materials, morning coffee, and lunch. 

Royal Arc’s instructors will be teaching the course, offering true life scenarios and hands-on experience for enhanced comprehension.  Royal Arc is headquartered in Flat Rock and has been providing industrial firms throughout the U.S. with design safety training programs that increase employee safety awareness since 1983.  

The Millwright Rigging Apprenticeship training program will include the following sections of learning:

  • Introduction

The introduction will cover topics such as company occupational health and safety legislation, employee “duty of care” and course objectives.

  • Slinging and Safe Working Loads

This section will cover topics such as load factors, and methods of rigging.  It will also include calculating the working load limit of slings, slinging and load handing, rigging plan, and lift plan.

  • Weight of Load

This section will include learning about mass of various materials and areas of load. It will also include calculating the weight of a load, and safe staking of various materials.

  • Mobile and Manufacturing Crane Safety

This section will cover safe working practices such as moving a crane, set up plan, hazards, and hand signals.

  • Slings: Wire Rope, Flexible Steel, Chain, Flat Webbing and Synthetic Slings

These sections will cover construction, inspection and discard, safe use, maintenance, and storage of various slings.

  • Lifting Accessories

This section focuses on safe use and inspection of lifting clamps, hooks, master links shackles, eye-bolts, swivels, chain falls, rope grips, lever hoists and beam clamps.

  • Practical Exercise and Assessments

This section will cover load assessment, selection and inspection of lifting equipment, and moving loads.
