MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to racial justice and equality with Diversity Week events from Jan 17-20.
Diversity Week is sponsored by the MCCC Diversity Committee. All events will take place at MCCC’s Main Campus on 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. in Monroe.
The college will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
On Tuesday, Jan. 17, MCCC President Dr. Kojo Quartey will present “Immigration Pros/Cons – A Discussion” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Dining Room of the Warrick Student Services/Administration Building.
A “We Shall Overcome” March Simulation, Diversity and Service Fair and “Increasing Diversity in Law Enforcement” presentation will be held Wednesday, January 18.
Those interested in marching are invited to assemble for the march at 11:15 a.m. in front of the Career Technology Center. The march will go from the CTC to the Audrey M. Warrick Student Services/Administration Building, where the Diversity and Service Fair will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The fair will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to racial justice and equality. Information on various dimensions of diversity will be showcased. Several MCCC student clubs will be represented, as well as service agencies with possible volunteer opportunities available. International desserts will also be served. Robert Hendrix, first lieutenant with the Michigan State Police, will present “Increasing Diversity in Law Enforcement,” from 12:30 -1:30 p.m. in the Dining Room of the Audrey M. Warrick Student Services/Administration Building.
On Friday, Jan. 20 from noon-1 p.m., international dishes prepared by MCCC employees will be available Admissions and Guidance Office corridor. The Grade A Café, located in the same building, will be preparing an “International Trio of Entrées.”
