MCCC is among six Michigan public entities in Michigan that have been recognized as Leaders in Energy Efficiency by the Energy Services Coalition.
MCCC won the award for the geothermal system it installed to replace its previous HVAC system. The $16.1 million project is expected to result in an annual savings of $275,000. The geothermal system is expected to last 50 years, twice the life of a conventional system. Ameresco, Inc. was the engineer and general contractor for the project.
Accepting the award in Lansing on Nov. 1 on behalf of MCCC were maintenance chiefs Jeff Harbaugh and Tom Kleman, as well as Jack Burns, director of campus planning and facilities.
