MONROE, Mich. – The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Upward Bound Scholarship to Summer Jackson and Shianna LaBell. The $500 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees and books.
Jackson, of Newport, is a 2017 graduate of Airport High School and is currently pursuing a career in Business Management at MCCC. While attending high school, she was a volunteer for the Special Olympics, helped collect money for Flint water victims and Elly Day. She is the daughter of Jamie Mahas.
LaBell, of Monroe, is a 2017 graduate of Monroe High School and is currently pursuing an Associate of Science degree at MCCC. She has volunteered at soup kitchens and is involved in the Ignition club at MHS. She is the daughter of Kevin and Tonya LaBell.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a first-generation college student or meet income eligibility guidelines.
