Classic Albums Live to Perform Tribute to the Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’ at MCCC

Only About 50 Tickets are Still Available

MONROE, Mich. – Classic Albums Live will recreate the magic of one of the most influential albums of rock music, The Beatles' iconic “Abbey Road,” on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Monroe County Community College’s La-Z-Boy Center, Meyer Theater.
The La-Z-Boy Center is located on MCCC’s Main Campus at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. in Monroe.

The band will recreate the 1969 rock masterpiece cut for cut, note for note, using every instrument it took, exactly as you remember it – no wigs, no samples and no costumes.  In addition, Classic Albums Live will also perform other memorable Beatles’ songs from that period.

According to Craig Martin, producer of the Classic Albums Live series, which includes similar recreations of albums by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, “There’s a real thirst to hear these albums produced start to finish.  For many of us, this is the music we grew up with – the soundtrack of our lives.”

MCCC hosted Classic Albums Live’s rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Led Zeppelin III” last year.

Martin said that all of the focus is put into the music, and the works are performed the same way an orchestra performs the works of Mozart.

“We don’t bother with imitation or impersonation,” he said.  “We research these albums and go to great lengths to reproduce each and every sound live.  We never use tape or computers.”

“Abbey Road” was the last album to be recorded by The Beatles, though “Let It Be” was the last to be released.  According to AllMusic, it was a fitting swan song for the group because it echoed some of the faux-conceptual forms of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” but featured stronger compositions and was more rock-oriented.  “Abbey Road” included a medley of vignettes that covered much of side two, as well as furious guitar-heavy rock such as “I Want You (She's So Heavy)” and “Come Together.”  Also featured were two hits by George Harrison, who blossomed into a major songwriter with the release of “Abbey Road”: “Here Comes the Sun” and the ballad “Something.”

Many debate whether “Abbey Road” is the Beatles' best work, but it is certainly among The Beatles’ most immaculately produced and tightly constructed.
