MCCC President Receives Positive Evaluation From Board

MONROE, Mich. – Last night, Monroe County Community College President Dr. Kojo A. Quartey received a positive performance evaluation from the college’s Board of Trustees.

The trustees met in closed session with Quartey to conduct the evaluation, and returned to open session to report out on the results.

MCCC Chairman of the Board Joseph N. Bellino released the following statement after the meeting:

“The MCCC Board of Trustees feels that Dr. Quartey has been truly embraced by the community and done a phenomenal job during his time at MCCC.  He has tackled a myriad of issues.  A few examples of successful initiatives that have occurred under his leadership include:

  • The successful proposal to the Monroe County electorate for a 5-year maintenance improvement millage;
  • The development and implementation of a new strategic plan, as well as an enrollment management plan that has stabilized enrollment;
  • The creation of a new automatic scholarship for qualified county residents based on ACT/SAT scores;
  • The expansion of direct college agreements, which allow high school students to take MCCC courses without ever leaving their high school, with four additional schools;
  • The installation of a campus-wide geothermal system with benefits that include a long system life and lower operating costs; and
  • The finalization of an agreement to bring Spring Arbor University’s Metro Toledo site to MCCC’s Whitman Center in Temperance.”

By a vote of 6-0, the board approved a pay increase of 1 percent for Quartey for the remainder of his 2016-17 contract year, effective immediately, as well as a 1.5 percent raise in each of the next two years.  Quartey’s new annual base salary will be $166,650 prorated for the 2016-17 contract year.

In addition, Quartey’s expense account for enhancing college community relations was increased from $3,000 to $5,000 per year.

Quartey is in the first year of a three-year contract that runs through July 31, 2019.  He began as MCCC president in the summer of 2013.
