MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College is hosting two events in honor of Black History Month. Both are free and open to the public.
- Thursday, February 18. “African American Poetry Night” sponsored by the MCCC Writing Fellows, 7 p.m., Campbell Learning Resources Center, Little Theater (Room 3). This will be a celebration of the African American poets and authors who shaped the literary landscape of America. Attendees are invited to bring a favorite poem or story to share with the audience. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
- Saturday, February 27. Presentation by legendary Negro League baseball player Ted Toles Jr., sponsored by the MCCC Diversity Committee, 1 p.m., La-Z-Boy Center, Room 259/260. Toles played mostly as a pitcher for many teams in both the Negro League and minor leagues in the 1940s and 50s. His life story is the subject of a book, “Living on Borrowed Time."
