MCCC Awards the Sonya Kay Brett Business and Computer Information Systems Endowed Memorial Scholarship

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded the Sonya Kay Brett Business and Computer Information Systems Endowed Memorial Scholarship to Aaron Liske, Kathryn Long, Nathaniel Pierce and Rebecca Torzewski. The scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees and books.

Liske, of Dundee, is a 2008 graduate of Erie Mason High School and is studying CIS: Computer Science at MCCC. He is a member of the Luna Pier Volunteer Fire Department, serving as a fire fighter and EMT. He is the son of Marnella Campbell and David Liske.

Long, of Riga, is a 2014 Whiteford High School graduate and is currently studying Business Management at MCCC. She has volunteered at the Ottawa Lake Sportsmen Club, Whiteford High School Choir and Whiteford Valley Gobblers National Wild Turkey Federation. She is the daughter of Wayne Long and Sherie Long.

Pierce, of Monroe, is a 2012 graduate of Monroe High School and is currently studying CIS: Computer Science at MCCC. He is a volunteer for the Military Families of Monroe County as a graphic artist/document designer. He is the son of Tammie and Daniel Pierce.

Torzewski, of Monroe, is a 2014 graduate of Jefferson High School and is currently studying Accounting at MCCC. She recently joined Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and is an American Red Cross blood donor. She is the daughter of Peter and Dodie Torzewski.

To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must be enrolled in either a Business or Computer Information Systems Program, have completed 24 credit hours or more and have a GPA of 2.8 or above. The applicant must be a resident of Monroe County and a U.S. Citizen. Also, the student must maintain full-time student status during the scholarship year which is defined as twelve (12) credit hours.
