Online, Hybrid and Other Web-based Courses

MCCC offers an abundance of online, hybrid and other web-based classes.  Online classes deliver instruction in an entirely Web-based format. Hybrid classes combine a significant amount of Web-based instruction with some face-to-face classroom instruction.

There are many benefits of online, hybrid and web-based courses at MCCC:

  • Less restrictive scheduling
  • Convenience
  • Intensive self-study
  • Course materials are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week

Some students struggle in an online, hybrid and web-based formats. Other students excel. Students who excel in an online, hybrid and web-based formats:

  • Are highly self-motivated
  • Have strong computer skills
  • Possess good time management skills
  • Know how to study independently
  • Possess good communication skills

Online, hybrid and web-based classes at MCCC utilize Brightspace, a Web-based course management system, which includes communication tools – such as email, discussion boards and chats to interact with the instructor and other students.

Online, hybrid and web-based classes at MCCC are not self-paced. Students must complete exams, assignments, etc. by specified due dates. Also, some online, hybrid and web-based classes require proctored assignments, quizzes, and exams. Please carefully review the details/more information area or syllabus when you register for an online, hybrid or web-based course.

If you are registering for an online, hybrid or web-based course for the first time at MCCC, you must also complete the Online Orientation (ONL-001) prior to the start of the semester. You will be automatically enrolled into the Online Orientation within 5 days of registering in your online course(s). Failure to complete the required Online Orientation may result in de-registration from your online, hybrid and web-based courses. Research suggests that students should spend approximately 3 hours outside of regular in-class or online instruction, per credit hour, per week (e.g., 3 credit hour course + 9 hours studying per week outside of class time = 12 total hours per week), studying in order to be successful in their college courses.

Many online, hybrid and web-based courses offer online exams and assignments, however, some may require you to come to campus or schedule proctored exams or assignments. Please review the details/more information area of the course when registering or the syllabus for specific exam and assignment requirements.
