Register Starting March 24 for Summer
Students who register for summer not only graduate sooner, they are more likely to graduate, period. Summer Semester is a great option for current, new and “guest” students. Registration begins on March 24 and classes begin May 12. There are plenty of online choices, and sessions are short – most are 8 weeks.
"Summer classes offer many advantages," said Director of Enrollment Management Katie Navock. "They are short and concise, offer smaller class sizes that allow more one-on-one time with the instructor, allow students to catch up from previous reduced course loads, and bring students closer to graduation."
The Summer 2025 Schedule will be available in Self-Service March 24.
How to Prepare for Summer and Fall Registration
Summer Semester registration begins on March 24 and Fall 2025 registration begins soon after that, which means you should schedule an appointment with your academic advisor in the coming weeks (Dual enrollment students should meet with their high school counselor.). Your faculty advisor’s phone number and e-mail address are in the Husky Portal under “My Personal Profile.” You should take an active role in the advising process. Prepare a list of questions you want to ask. In preparation for registration, you should go to your Self-Service account and plan your classes in Student Planning to the best of your ability. Here are directions to do that:
1. Log in to the Husky Portal with your username and password.
2. Select Self-Service.
3. Select "Student Planning."
4. On the "Student Planning" page, select "Plan Your Degree and Register for Classes."
5. Use the arrows to select the appropriate term for which you are registering.
Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success Dr. Scott Behrens would like to hear from you, including any concerns or suggestions you may have, so please feel free to contact him at sbehrens@monroeccc.edu.

The One Book, One Community of Monroe County 2025 program began on February 26. OBOC is a collaborative, county-wide reading initiative that brings the community together through reading. The committee, including representatives from MCCC, Monroe County Library System, Monroe County Museum System and the community, have put together a month-long program of events around the book "Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt. We have engaging events for all ages across the entire county. You can read more about the events on the OBOC website.
The Monroe County Library System provides access to "Remarkably Bright Creatures" and the companion read, "The Soul of an Octopus" by Sy Montgomery through the Hoopla app. You can also check the books out from the MCCC Library.

Student Newspaper Seeks Paid Editors for Fall 2025
The Agora, MCCC's student newspaper, is seeking an editor and assistant editor for the 2025 fall semester. These are paid positions.
The editor is responsible for all aspects of the newspaper and website. One of the editor’s key responsibilities is establishing the schedule of work, from story deadlines to production days to print deadlines. Another key role is assigning staff responsibilities, from who covers what stories to who designs which pages, etc. The assistant editor supports the editor.
If you have experience in journalism and are interested in either position, please email agora@monroeccc.edu.
Work Where You Learn
MCCC students are hired for many positions at the college, including for many positions that provide experience applicable to specific fields of study. These jobs are part-time with a maximum of 20 hours per week. It is the commitment of the college that the candidate is a student first and an employee second; therefore, a student’s class schedule is reviewed and work hours are scheduled accordingly. To be eligible, students must be enrolled for at least six credit hours during the Fall and Winter semesters of employment. To review and apply for student assistant positions, a candidate must register with the Office of Workforce Development at collegecentral.com/monroeccc; fill out the Student Assistant application at https://www.monroeccc.edu/sites/default/files/academics/StudentAssistant-JobApp.pdf and e-mail it to workforce@monroeccc.edu or drop it off at the Office of Workforce Development in the La-Z-Boy Center, Suite 286.
Student Clubs: A Message Treasurer Noah Dupuis
As treasurer of Student Government, I have carefully monitored the financial records of all clubs, and I am here to tell you we still have funds available for student clubs to apply for and use. A significant portion of the student activities fund remains unspent. These funds allow us to enhance events that foster a welcoming community for the rest of the semester. With better budget management, we can ensure that these funds directly benefit students and explore more ways to make the most of our budget to enhance student life at MCCC.
Deadline Extended to March 31! Apply NOW for Scholarships for 2025-2026
More than $325,000 in scholarship funding is available for current and future students. Apply once by March 31, 2025 to be considered for more than 200 scholarships! Not all scholarships are need based or require a high GPA. The staff at the Financial Aid Office are always willing to guide you through the financial aid process. Call (734) 384-4135 for more information.
Most federal or state-funded tuition programs don’t allow students to use their awards on things like lab fees, books or other supplies and equipment, but most of these scholarships from The Foundation at MCCC and donors do allow for use on those expenses.

The "MCCC Happenings" newsletter was created in response to student requests to minimize the number of emails sent to students. The intent of the newsletter is to provide students a simple place to learn about important information they need and events on campus. Ensure articles are written in third person as much as possible and are edited. Send articles to jhollis@monroeccc.edu.
The Office of the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success has sole discretion regarding editing and what is published in MCCC Happenings.
The Office of Marketing Communications designs the online newsletter and copy edits submissions for accuracy and clarity.
