TO SAY DANIEL IS A MAN ON A MISSION IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT.
Overcoming hurdles is in his blood, and pursuing a college degree at the age of 29 is only the latest of many he has faced head-on. He grew up in poverty in Texas, lost both parents, and had to join the workforce at 16 in full-time survival mode. After a decade of aimless wandering, he came to Monroe. He met MCCC President Kojo Quartey, who helped him enroll. Now living and working in The Philadelphia House homeless shelter, he is driven by his aspiration to serve others. He has been able to attend MCCC, due in part to a very generous Guire Scholarship. He is studying business management and is already making a difference to his fellow students as a founding member of a charity organization at MCCC called the Care Closet. He also works assisting in the college’s Library, and as a math tutor at the Learning Bank. “Attending college was just a dream I never thought I would be in a position to do, and now, here I am."
