Frequently Asked Questions - Emergency Relief Fund (COVID-19 Response)

Your donation will be used to support MCCC students and their families who are hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. This fund will swiftly deploy financial resources to students to ensure they reach their educational goals despite the current crisis.  Our students’ needs are great and varied.  The Emergency Relief Fund provides financial support beyond traditional tuition-based scholarships to meet the very real challenges that imperil a student’s ability to succeed in college, particularly during this difficult time.

Together we can ensure that our students are prepared to fuel our economic recovery once this crisis lifts.

Yes!  The Foundation Board of Directors has created a challenge fund to match donor gifts up to $25,000 dollar-for-dollar.  That means your gift becomes twice as effective.  Please help us answer the call by making a gift.

We do not have a specific goal or timeline for the MCCC COVID-19 Relief Initiative. We anticipate long-lasting effects of COVID-19 beyond the current stay at home order, so our hope is for the Fund to provide as much support as possible, for as long as possible. The support provided directly or indirectly to students will take into account developing needs and underserved groups as the COVID-19 impacts evolve.

Thank you to our partners – individuals, nonprofits, foundations, and corporations – who have come together to support our community through the MCCC Emergency Response Fund. A list of major donors and Foundation funds supporting the COVID-19 Response Initiative can be found at the bottom of the main program page. But what we have is just kicking off, and we welcome any and all new donations.

There is no minimum donation.  We are grateful for any and all donations shared during this difficult time to serve students and their families in need. There is no amount too small to help make a difference.  Keep in mind, the purpose of this fund is to pool many donor gifts together to provide quick, flexible support to our students in need.

If a donor is interested in supporting a typical grant for a student, a typical emergency scholarship provided from this fund can make a meaningful impact starting at $250, and most Emergency Fund grants made directly to students are less than $500.

The MCCC Office of Financial Aid is responsible for making informed award determinations based on a variety of factors including eligibility for other sources of financial aid, need and the student’s extenuating circumstances.

All direct student support is awarded through the MCCC financial aid office.

Students who are in need of emergency financial assistance with unexpected expenses that are essential to their continued academic success may petition Dr. Valerie Culler, interim vice president of enrollment and student success and director of financial aid, at vculler@monroeccc.edu, for funds when they have exhausted all other resources.

Americans and residents in our community are engaging with digital platforms and content at record levels to stay informed. We encourage you to share our website within your own networks to help us spread the word. Including that you supported our important work not only builds awareness for the need our students have, but also serves as a powerful invitation to inspire others to join you in giving generously.
