Remembering Officer Darrian Young

AC Darrian YoungDarrian May Young was born in Monroe, Michigan, on April 29, 1996. She loved all animals, but had a special affinity for horses. She began showing horses at the age of 5, led the Airport High School Equestrian Team to 4 district championships and 2 regional championships, and continued to compete when she placed 5th in a run just days before her untimely death.

Darrian was employed as a Monroe County animal control officer. Given her love of all animals, this was a dream job for her. She also was proud to volunteer on the Monroe County Mounted Police force. Officer Young’s life was tragically taken by a drunk driver June 4, 2020, while on duty.

This scholarship is being established by family and friends of Darrian Young,  The Monroe Exchange Club, and The Foundation at Monroe County Community College to create a lasting tribute to Darrian’s life. The family’s desire is that Darrian never be forgotten and that her energetic life serve as an example for young people. They consider it a privilege to offer this scholarship to students pursuing a career through MCCC.  Upon reaching endowed status, the Officer Darrian Young Memorial Scholarship will provide scholarship support in perpetuity for Monroe County Community College students.
