About Inside Out Dance Ensemble
IODE is a contemporary dance company founded in 2010, under the direction of Kellie Lajiness. Housed at Monroe County Community College, it is part of the annual Season of Events and provides entertainment for organized events on and off campus. IODE is especially proud of their collaborative efforts made with MCCC’s Writing Fellows, the Monroe County ISD ‘s Creative Expressions Group, local vocalists and musicians. The Ensemble’s concert list includes Tango Tea, Keepin’ It Live, Bringtime Springtime, Flashback 50, Away We Go, America’s Favorite Pastimes, Stage and Screen, A Seasonal Breeze, Occupied by Dreams, Access and Soundtracks. Highlighted presentations include the MCCC’s Mardi Gras Pre-Show, past MC5 productions, MCCC’s 25th Anniversary Auto Show, MCCC’s 50th Anniversary Event, and Color Run. IODE also performed for the Monroe County Community Foundation Fundraiser. They annually headline the Destination Dance Holiday Showcase each December. In addition, IODE was featured in “Birth of A Nation”, showcasing three historical dances for the War of 1812 Anniversary. Kevin R. Daniels is a singer/songwriter “raised and rooted” in bluegrass, gospel and classic country. Kevin, an artist of many mediums is a storyteller in the truest sense. He approaches inspiration and expression from true life experience. To Kevin, “life is a song that’s never finished being written”. Kevin performs in many local and regional venues including the Grey Heron, Monroe County Fair and the Farmington Farmers Market. This is Kevin’s seventh collaboration with the MCCC Inside Out Dance Ensemble.
Kellie Lajiness' credentials include a BFA in Dance from WMU and MA in Dance from OSU, instructing within both Dance Departments as well as choreographing for each respective Theatre Department. As an adjunct faculty member at Monroe County Community College, Kellie founded MCCC’s Inside Out Dance Ensemble (IODE), Ballroom Dance Club and Drama Club. A prominent figure in Monroe’s dance, musical theater and educational community, Kellie instructs modern, jazz, tap, ballet, theater dance and ballroom to all age groups through her MCCC Destination Dance School, also home to the Inside Out Junior Company and Destination Tap Collective. An awarded and critically acclaimed mentor, choreographer and performer, Kellie has toured regionally and successfully competed in the American Rhythm Ballroom Division. She founded and directed the RRCA’s Dance Academy from 1997-2010, worked as an Artist in Residence with the Monroe County ISD, and has choreographed several musicals in neighboring states, local theater organizations and schools. She recently received a state-wide “Excellence in Choreography Award” from the Association of Community Theatre for her work on Monroe Community Players production of The Tempest. Kellie has been a Guest Lecturer for Oakland University’s Department of Dance for the past two years. She remains an active board member for the Michigan Dance Council and served as Dance Division Coordinator for the Michigan Youth Arts Festival for several years. She was voted MDC’s 2012 Dance Educator of the Year, receiving the Touchstone Award for teaching excellence in arts education. Many past students are pursuing dance and musical theater degrees and careers.
